The Grandest of all Design Award Shows comes to Prague
Forget the Oscars or the Golden Globes, for Czech designers it’s Czech Grand Design that they and we care about! Here are the nominees for fashion designer of the year and jewelry designer of the year
Fashion Designer of the Year: The Nominees
Pavel Brejcha (Line)– September saw an explosion of minimalist styles, but few were able to execute them quite as properly as Pavel Brejcha. The Spring/Summer 2013 line combined tonal blues and creams in silks and cottons to create an updated, womanly line that – gasp- every woman can actually wear. Video from Prague Fashion Weekend: HERE
Miro Sabo – The Spring/Summer 2013 collection from the young upstart, combines a love of silk taftas with Dutch painters from days past- think Girl with the Pearl earring. Video of the fashion show from Elle Talent Card: HERE
Hana Zárubová (Panto N)- The designer was the only one out of the three to show an Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, but her designer stayed true to her normal form. Following, perhaps the same inspiration as last year’s Designblok, we saw many of the same elements continue in her collection this year.
Jewelry Designer of the Year: The Nominees
Blueberries– using nylon plastic the designers behind this line create webs, cocoons, and other worldly delights in their one of a kind 3D jewelry. As a nominee and runner-up in the Designblok Jewelry category for 2012, expect this little brand to give the rest of the labels a run for their money!
Janja Prokic– she made us think that brushed gold and silver with byzantine flair was something that the modern women had to have in her wardrobe. The likes of New York also thought the same and invited the young designer for a show. Her collection for Designblok 2012 aimed to show the relationship between animals, which inspired her jewelry to take on forms with pieces of fur intricately embracing brushed gold and silver.
Markéta Richterová–using new materials and technology the designer constructs geometrically sound pieces that could inspire the next wave of cubist artists in Prague. Having been on the scene for over four years, the designer is one of the top jewelry designers when it comes to geo-inspired pieces.
