A League of their Own- PBL Prague S/S13

PBL Prague debuts a sporty, chic look for Spring

Pavel Brejcha and Katarina Kral had a lot riding on this spring/summer 2013. After their press praise at Prague Fashion Weekend 2012 and later nominated for Czech Grand Design, all eyes were on them for fresh details and an update to their successful minimalist remake of fall/winter.

The show opened with a structured grey coat, which I later found out was made of a heavy curtain material that has a tendency to be a pain in the ass to work with; but if you are having Gone with the Wind thoughts of being dressed in curtain fabric, rest assured that the material will change in production to something more reliable and pliable.

Flirty, feminine bloomers and circle skirts in marigold and lemon yellow with a dash of starfish and melon orange thrown in for added warmth, were perfect colors against base colors of grey and white.  Combined with sportier, masculine elements like v-neck baseball jackets, tuxedo jacket silhouettes and sexed-up dress shirts the PBL Prague team were able to tell their story of “stricter tops and freer bottoms”, with such ease that interviewing them after the show was a synch!

Of course, silhouettes and colors only tell one part of the story. Fabrics played a pivotal role in explaining the PBL Prague women for spring/summer with the team choosing cotton jersey and cotton twill for the upper section of the silhouettes; whilst materials like mesh, silk chiffon, chine de chine, and crepe chiffon created the flouncy bottom half.

Perhaps you are now wondering why in the world I keep referring to Pavel Brejcha as PBL Prague? That’s another revelation to come out of Spring Fashion Week. “There are basically two reasons {for the change},” explained Katarina Kral, strategic marketer and manager for the line, “We wanted to do a clear difference between Pavel’s own design, how he builds it, and how he feels; and when we do the line together.” The idea, quite simply put, it to give the line- PBL Prague- a more international sounding name.
