Supermodels, Journalists, Czech Celebrities: Shopping in Prague just got a little more interesting
Thursday, May 29: The first annual Harper’s Bazaar Prague Fashion Night opened with the sort of fan fare that one would expect from a long-awaited movie star’s arrival or an event that has been in production for many years.
Firstly, we should probably discuss the pink elephant in the room: the rain. It poured continuously from 5pm, when the event officially started, until around 11pm, when the event actually ended. The rain, was by far the biggest problem with the evening as women and men dressed and donned in their latest fashions jumped over puddles and attempted to keep themselves looking good while simultaneously dodging rain drops from above.
Of course for those who love fashion- including myself- no amount of rain or puddle jumping could keep me away from trying on Spring/Sumer and Pre-Fall 2013 at Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior, of the multi-brand Obsession store. Here, as the champagne was poured, the DJ’s spinned tracks, and passed h’orderves were the sort of thing from a culinary fantasy, people shopped, chatted, and funnily enough bought.
But it was more than just industry professionals, former Czech Misses and Czech celebrities that were in attendance. Models Petra Němcová, with paparazzi and a buzzing fan-base in tow, along with Pavlina Němcová both eagerly greeted shoppers while posing for pictures. But it was also the daughter of the Salvatore Ferragamo and current Vice- President of Ferragamo Finanziaria SpA., Giovanna Gentile Ferragamo , that caused quite a stir. With entourage at the ready Ms. Giovanna Gentile Ferragamo was on hand to debut a special collection of Ferragamo shoes modeled after the same shoes that blond, bombshell Marilyn Monroe had worn during her short life.
Of course it wasn’t just the big name designer stores that received all of the traffic. Czech designers like Natali Ruden, Beata Rajska, as well as the emerging young Czech talent had both their devoted fans, as well as new arrivals.
For its first run and the inclement weather, the event was certainly a success. While the stores weren’t as packed as perhaps the organizers would have wished for, even the non-diehard fashion fans were out on the streets puddle jumping with the rest of us. Needless to say, I am looking forward to the next event.
