I love pleats. Maybe it’s that good Catholic upbringing or a fondness for most of the clothes that Cher Horwitz wore in Clueless; or perhaps it was any of the clothing choices in my name sake movie, Heathers... those girls were bitches. Either way, I am happy to see that the pleat is coming back for Spring/Summer 2014- even though I am not quite sure pleats deserve to go on the bottom half of my body with child-bearing hips… just saying.
It’s not often that Czech designers follow trends that coincide with the current season, but LaFormela, always seems to be one that manages it. This Spring/Summer 2014 the design trio, who first introduced their collection in December at the Tereza Maxova gala, Fashion for Kids, showed why they are a standout talent with a bright international future.
The designers who wanted to create, “ready to wear clothes that are functional and most practical for everyday wear, ” used black, baby-blue and salmon pink, in classic silhouettes describing them as, “simple and useful”. Of course, this hasn’t meant that they’ve skipped on fabrics; expect to see silks in either short, skirt, or evening dress form paired with elbow-length leather gloves to add an extra appeal to day-wear or high-gloss evening glamour.
